FR | Pour son deuxième album chez Cypres, Laurence Mekhitarian a imaginé un programme associant la musique de Robert Schumann à celle de György Kurtág, tant il lui semblait évident que leurs univers partagent une profonde parenté sensible. Certaines œuvres de Kurtág, comme le Trio Hommage à R. Sch. ou Quasi una fantasia, en témoignent directement. Parallèlement au Scènes de la forêt de Schumann, Laurence Mekhitarian a choisi d’intégrer trois extraits du cycle Sur un sentier recouvert de Leoš Janáček et de jouer chacune de ces pièces en alternance avec des miniatures de Kurtág, issues de ses dix recueils Játékok.

C’est un cheminement libre que la pianiste a suivi ici, guidée par les échos, les résonances, les contrastes et les affinités sonores. Depuis près de quarante ans, Kurtág accompagne sa vie musicale, comme interprète et pédagogue. Son exigence, sa profondeur, son humanité l’ont profondément marquée. Selon elle, il incarne une manière rare et essentielle d’être au monde à travers l’art.

Ce programme a été construit avec curiosité et émerveillement, en laissant les œuvres dialoguer entre elles. Les pièces de Kurtág — Fleurs, Objet trouvé, Jeu avec l’infini — ouvrent un espace sonore au-delà du clavier. Elles nous amènent aux Scènes de la forêt, comme une porte vers un monde à explorer. Chaque miniature de Kurtág est un hommage, un souvenir, un message. Le parcours se termine avec une transcription d’un Largo de Jean-Sébastien Bach, puis une pièce d’Artur Avanesov (Modulatio, en piste cachée…), comme une offrande à György Kurtág. Chaque œuvre ici est un don, une invitation à l’écoute intérieure et partagée.

EN | For her second album with Cypres, Laurence Mekhitarian has devised a programme combining the music of Robert Schumann with that of György Kurtág, as it seemed obvious to her that their worlds share a profound emotional kinship. Certain works by Kurtág, such as the Trio Hommage à R. Sch. and Quasi una fantasia, bear direct witness to this. Alongside Schumann’s Waldszenen, Laurence Mekhitarian has chosen to include three excerpts from Leoš Janáček’s cycle Sur un sentier recouvert and to play each of these pieces alternately with miniatures by Kurtág from his ten collections of Játékok.

The pianist has followed a free path here, guided by echoes, resonances, contrasts and sonic affinities. Kurtág has been part of her musical life for nearly forty years, both as a performer and a teacher. His high standards, his depth and his humanity have had a profound impact on her. In her view, he embodies a rare and essential way of being in the world through art.

This programme has been constructed with curiosity and wonder, allowing the works to dialogue with each other. Kurtág’s pieces — Fleurs, Objet trouvé, Jeu avec l’infini — open up a sound space beyond the keyboard. They lead us to the Waldszenen, like a door to a world waiting to be explored. Each of Kurtág’s miniatures is a tribute, a memory, a message. The journey ends with a transcription of a Largo by Johann Sebastian Bach, followed by a piece by Artur Avanesov (Modulatio, as a hidden track…).
